Why we needed a 4 wheel drive ambulance.
There is outreach and then there is outreach, getting to remote villages is not always easy. Outreach also now includes screening men over 40 for enlarged prostate. They also go and treat men who have already been diagnosed, who cannot make the trip to the hospital.

Health days
Herona Hospital have linked with remote village leaders and schools to organise ‘health days'. On these health days, social workers and health practitioners travel to the remote areas and provide free services like; HIV testing and counselling Eye tests Dental examinations and extractions Reproductive health Vaccinations Prenatal care and counselling.

Cutting costs
Herona Hospital Ltd is a not for profit business, every conscious effort is made to make sure that costs are as low as possible. But overheads are high including the cost of feeding staff. In an effort to save money and in turn keep service charges to a minimum we have started a garden to grow food for staff dinners. Below are pictures of the garden being prepared for planting, even Garvin found time to don his wellies and do some digging.
