A sad day at Herona

Being witness to a mother arriving at Herona Hospital already dead from child birth is extremely difficult.

The mother had been scanned and had been informed the baby had hydrocephalus a condition where the baby has water in the brain, she was informed she would need a c-section. After being told this she then chose visited a Traditional Birth Attendant (TBA), she was told her, that scans cannot see what is happening inside her, she choose to have the birth there with the TBA. The mother was the first and only body to enter our new mortuary where the baby then had to be removed as culture dictates. All this could have been avoided.

This is not the first time it has happened, it just happened to be my first experiences of this.

Herona Hospital desperately wants to help put an end to mothers dying in child birth and discourage mothers from going to a TBA. They aim to do this through education and most significantly reducing the cost of natural child birth at HHL to only 50.000 ugx.(£10). By making this procedure affordable to everyone HHL hope to encourage all mothers to come to Herona Hospital have a safe and comfortable child birth with friendly, caring, professional staff and even go home with some free clothes.
