

Today's free immunisation program
Today's free immunisation program was a great success, over 420 doses of vaccines were administered. Health education talks were conducted by a medical staff who emphasized among other things; the importance of HIV testing, exclusive breast feeding, cervical cancer screening, hand washing, natural and artificial long term family planning method.


Surveillance and pharmacy
These surveillance cameras were donated by a very grateful patient and help with the security of the hospital. This is the hospital pharmacy, Garvin buys a lot of medicine to keep a well stocked and diverse pharmacy, this is essential but very expensive so the security is very important.


Another busy week at Herona Hospital
A senior orthopaedic surgeon worked in our theatre. He was working on a tibia and fibula break which other hospitals were charging a lot of money to repair. The operation was a success and the patient is now recovering in plaster. Herona was also visited by a paediatrician who worked on children and gave a talk to all the staff. With the new faster road Garvin is experiencing many terrible accident injuries and last week was no exception. There were also minor operations. Equ

Garvin and all at Herona Hospital would like to say thank you to everyone who gave bed sheets, blankets and baby clothes. 20 sheets and baby clothes were sent by air (10 day delivery) and many more sheets, blankets and clothes have been sent by sea (3 months delivery) which will arrive in Jan 2018. We are now collecting towels, patients gowns, curtains as well as equipment.Thank you.

Why we need Herona Hospital maternity wing
The mother of this baby went to a traditional birth attendant. She was there for 3 days drinking local herbs, she went to relieve herself but unfortunately gave birth at that moment. The baby already tired fell into the long drop toilet. A good samaritan with the aid of a rope went down and pulled out the baby. The baby was cleaned and rushed to Herona Hospital. On arrival the baby was in a coma with severe hypothermia and asphyxia. The baby was resuscitated, given oxygen the
