A successful official opening

Saturday 17th February was the official opening of Herona Hospital Limited. Congratulations to Garvin and Rose on a very successful opening. Thanks and congratulations must go to HHL legal adviser Godfrey Mugabi who organised the event. Godfrey and his staff visited all the local councillors from 1-5, he also contacted the Hon Christine Ondoa, unfortunately the minister was at a function in Kitgum celebrating the late Bishop Janan Luwum day, many government dignitaries who would have made it were otherwise occupied by this national event. Godfrey also helped find wonderful entertainment, tents and food. We are very lucky to have him as part of the Herona family. Thanks to Godfrey the opening was very well attended by over 900 people throughout the day and evening. Local officials came headed by the Hon Muyanja Ssenyonga MP for Mukono South, local councillors, businesses and of course HHL patients, friends and local people. The UK was represented by dental hygienists Mandy Lazur and Carole Brennan and dental nurse Carolyn Trevorrow. Our guest of honour from the UK was Prof. Colin Green and his daughter Kathy Green of IMET 2000, without whom HHL would not exist. Godfrey also donated his Land Cruiser to escort Prof. Green and Kathy Green during their stay. The day started with Mass, which included the christenings of both Garvin’s children, Herona 3 and Colin Green jnr 5 months. This was followed by a blessing of the hospital. Then UK representatives arrived and speeches followed from the guest speakers. Herona staff were working as usual but they found time to come out and were thanked by Garvin and Rose. After the speeches, food and drinks were served and everyone ate well. Next Prof Colin Green officially opened the facility by cutting the ribbon before everyone received cake. Then the entertainment commenced, headed by Big Eye one of Uganda’s favourite musicians. We were also entertained by St Balikuddembe SSS Kisoga with singing and dancing, local dance groups and entertainers. It was a wonderful day to introduce HHL which was described as ‘an important and unique facility’. Thank you and congratulations to everyone involved, we were even featured on national television news and in national news papers.
